Kitesurf and pets: our pet-friendly approach

At Ocean Wind Tribe, we believe that adventure is better when shared with those we love the most… and that includes our pets! That’s why we’ve designed a pet-friendly kitesurfing practice, so you never have to leave your four-legged best friend at home.

There’s nothing like feeling the wind on your face and the energy of the ocean under your feet. But when you’re joined by that furry friend who wags their tail every time they see a wave, the magic multiplies. At Ocean Wind Tribe, we believe that connecting with nature also means including those who teach us daily about loyalty and joy: our pets.

A shared lifestyle

Practicing kitesurfing and living a pet-friendly lifestyle is all about harmony. It’s seeing every session as an adventure shared between humans and paws. From the beaches of Isla Blanca to Punta Chame, every breeze carries stories of kites, paw prints, and curious noses sniffing the salty air.

Before you inflate your kite, make sure the beach where you’ll be riding allows pets and has safe spaces away from other riders. A short walk along the shore is the perfect warm-up for both you and your dog: one stretches muscles, the other explores the world in their own way.

Plan the perfect day

To enjoy your session worry-free, always bring:

  • Portable water bottle and collapsible bowl. The heat and salty breeze can dehydrate faster than you think.
  • Umbrella or pop-up tent to create shade when the sun gets intense.
  • Microfiber towel to dry off after swimming and reduce excess sand.

If you’re going on a kite road trip, look for eco and pet-friendly accommodations. Many spots around the world already embrace this philosophy where surfers, adventurers, and pets share the same free spirit.

Safety in the water (for both)

While you’re out riding, your pet should stay in a safe spot. You can secure their leash to a fixed area or, if you’re with friends, ask someone to keep an eye on them. Kite lines and equipment can be dangerous for curious dogs.
Never leave them alone on windy days — the sound of the kite can be scary and cause accidents.

If your furry friend loves the water, let them splash only in calm, shallow areas. Some breeds enjoy swimming, while others prefer watching from the sand.

Recommended gear

There’s a great range of products for adventurous dogs:

  • Dog life jacket, like those from Ruffwear or EzyDog — perfect if your pup likes to swim.
  • UV or waterproof protective shirt, ideal for short-haired breeds.
  • Protective boots, useful on beaches with rocks, shells, or hot sand.
  • Doggles or sun goggles if you’ll spend long hours under bright sunlight.

Also, a collar with ID tag and updated microchip is essential in case they wander off on their own adventure.

Experiencing kitesurfing in Baja California with your pet is absolutely possible. Get ready for a day full of wind, ocean, and happy pawprints in the sand.

While you learn to master the wind, your pet can stay safe in a shaded area with fresh water and the care of our team. We want your experience to be free, fun, and completely worry-free.

Why we do it

  • Because we understand that pets are part of the family.
  • Because our pet-friendly approach creates a more relaxed and welcoming environment.
  • Because nothing compares to looking at the beach and seeing your furry friend enjoying it with you.

The perfect ending to a day of kite with your dog

After your kite session, relax by the shore with your dog and watch the sunset. While you release adrenaline, they find peace. You both share the same soundtrack: wind, waves, and the moment.

Connecting with the sea is an act of freedom; sharing it with your pet elevates that freedom into pure happiness.

At Ocean Wind Tribe, we believe the tribe doesn’t end with humans — it begins where the love for life begins.
